The Body Shop is not perfect but we’re passionate about improving the environment. One product at time. It’s crucial.
Time is not standing still.
That is why we have programs and partners who assist us in shaping and driving change.
Eliminating waste plastic.
Small decisions can have a big impact.
More often than not, it is the micro-moments of personal action that converge and compound to form a joyous, positive, and unstoppable momentum.
Our refill scheme is exactly that. A massive endeavor built exclusively on tiny deeds that you can perform every day.
12 of our most-loved products are refillable and there are 23 refill stations around South Africa. Globally, more than 700 refill stations have already been created. And we’re not stopping there!
All you need to do is Refill. Reuse. Repeat.
Reducing poverty through recycling.
We've teamed up with Plastics for Change, an organization that assists waste pickers in India get better working conditions, a fair wage, and the respect and recognition they deserve.
We recycle the plastic waste they gather into our 250ml shampoo and conditioner bottles. All of our 250ml Shampoo & Conditioner bottles are made from 100% recycled plastic. 50% is sourced from Plastics for Change, the remaining 50% is sourced from Bantam.
By 2030, our aim to reach full packaging circularity. What does that mean? • 100% of all packaging materials will be reusable, recyclable or compostable. • 50% of all plastic used will be from recycled sources. • In areas where there are no recycling facilities we will use ‘collection and reuse’ programmes.
The tool will help us to assess our environmental impact and help eco-design our products.
Additionally, we are looking to substitute the ingredients in our product formulas that have the most negative impact on the planet.
We want to learn more about the overall impact of our formulations on the environment, so we are starting to do this with a small number of our products.
We always consider the protection of our planet.
We feel it is our business to respect our precious planet. That is why we are going beyond our packaging.
We intend to make our rinse-off formulas 95% biodegradable by 2030.
As a result, we maximize efficiency while ensuring that a greater proportion of our substances may be broken down.
Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the industry-standard assessment for biodegradability.
Currently, our rinse off product formulas are 90% biodegradable.
We are reducing the usage of non-renewable fossil-origin ingredients in our products as we transition to 95% natural-origin ingredients , without sacrificing performance or sensitivities. This means that we aim for 95% natural ingredients in skincare and body care, 90% in cleansing solutions, and 80% in make-up.
One thing is certain: everything we do is oriented at making our planet a little fairer and a little more beautiful every day. And achieving genuine change. For your benefit. For all of us. So, every ingredient we use and every new product we develop is there because it is good for your body and does not compromise safety or ethics. That is something we will always keep sight of. At any cost
